Medicare Advantage and Medicare Supplement (Medigap) plans are two different approaches to enhance your Medicare coverage, each with its own set of pros and cons. Medicare Advantage, often referred to as Part C, bundles together your hospital and medical coverage with additional benefits like vision and dental.

The pros of Medicare Advantage are:

\
In general, lower premiums than Medigap.
\
Possible extra benefits like dental, vision, hearing, over-the-counter benefits and more.
\
Coordination of care among doctors in certain clinics and systems.
\
Strong prescription drug coverage is usually included in an Advantage plan.

The cons of Medicare Advantage are:

\
You will need to use a network of doctors and hospitals. Either HMO or PPO.
\
Pre-authorization requirements from the Medicare Advantage insurance company for many medical services (e.g. MRI’s, CT scans, Chemotherapy, etc …).
\
There may be co-payments for services, and you might need referrals (HMO) to see specialists.
\
If you travel frequently, coverage may be limited outside your plan’s service area.

With all these pros and cons it is best to have an experienced agent to sort this out at no cost. Call Mike Bauer 281-787-7358 today to learn more.
